Jumbo lands on closed runway - landing gear destroyed

This one, A B747, registration ZS-OOS, operated by Hydro Air Cargo, landed in Lagos, Murtalah Mohammed Airport at night !

The runway (19R) was closed for construction, the pilot suspected it was closed, but the tower convinced him it was fine & he was cleared to land.

The flight crew suffered only minor injuries, unlike their aircraft

When he saw what happened, the controller ran away!
He was arrested the next day.

They just don't build 'em like they used to, do they!

Is this an old story??????

I see that in 2003 the same rego had a mishap and was written off.

Check these few links on this page....

It appears you could be correct there J430, it looks as though these photos have only recently been released.

We promise to try harder.
Thanks for the heads up.
