According to information the captain took over from the f/o during landing to execute a go around. The weather was rain with strong gusty winds and possible windshear.
The captain said he did not know the first officer had selected reverse thrust.

The captain did not know reverse thrust had been selected?!
Didn't he notice the spoilers were up?
What was he doing as PM?
If conditions were so bad why did he let the first officer make the approach in the first instance?
Luck was riding with them on that day. _________________ Enjoying Life as a pilot - show me the MONEY!

No one shud be surprised least of all JAL and the JAPCAB. JAL decided they could save money by sacking their most experienced pilots. Rear pressure bulkhead was damaged so aircraft is grounded and need extensive repairs (remember JAL 123). Here is one of the results that made the public arena.
Stanby for more.
