Ryanair, Europe's largest low fares airline, today (27April 2006) flew the
oldest football in the world from Glasgow Prestwick to Hamburg Lubeck.
The ball will take pride of place at an exhibition in Hamburg, linked to the
World Cup, entitled "The Fascination of Football".
Checking in under the name of Mr A Football, the sixteenth-century pig's bladder, reputed to have been kicked about by Mary Queen of Scots at her weekly five-a-side game in Linlithgow, travelled in a specially-designed box and even had its own seat.
It's understood the ball selected a pie and bovril from Ryanair's in-flight catering.
Karl Hogstadius, Ryanair's Deputy Sales & Marketing Manager UK, said: "Flying the oldest football in the world is yet another milestone for Ryanair. The valuable ball was well taken care of and arrived on time in Hamburg Lubeck.
Pic shows the ball relaxing in its seat, with curator Michael McGinnes looking on.
